I would like to grow some bamboo and I have no idea where to start?
Can you answer AuntieKJ's question about Bamboo?:
I realize that Bamboo is an extremely intrusive plant..it can take over everything. But I have an aea of my back where my fence line is at the bottom of a low hill. I would like more privacy from my neighbors and the street behind me, I have a corner lot. And rather than replace my entire 1 yera old fence or wit for years for a tree or 2 to fill in the lot. I though of bamboo. Where do I purchase starter plants, shoots, or seeds. Lucky bamboo isn't the same is it? I always thought it was a hybrid designed to stay small. Thank you
WHERE DO I PURCHASE STARTE PLANTS OR SEEDS. I HAVE TRIED MY LOCAL AREA AND HAVE ONLY FOUND LUCKY BAMBOO.

You can start with what are you going to do with this bamboo. I mean are you like going to get panda bears to eat it or something. Well I'm waiting.
I think that the person that started this topic was pretty open with what they wanted to do "I would like more privacy from my neighbors and the street behind me"
ANYWAY…
Bamboo is a great barrier plant but banana trees are too and they grow WAY faster and give your yard that instant tropical feeling. They type of bamboo plant varies with what zone you are in…. aka what climate you are in. Best of Luck. Feel free to send me a message if you have more questions.
Read the forums at they will know for sure
most seed and plant catalog have these,,they ARE very intrusive and you would have to build some kind of stop in the soil to keep them from spreading,,,,some bamboo get to 8-10 inch in diameter,, here in the bayou state when use finger sized ones for fishing poles!!
For your zone 9 I would go with Moso(phyllostachys heterocycla pubescens which is a runner but if you've seen the movie crouching tiger hidden dragon that is Moso bamboo. Now, you could go with a very large clumper called oldhamii or bambusa lako. I wish I lived in zone 9. I live in zone 6. But I have 19 different varieties of bamboo I love the runners.
