How do I take care of a bamboo tree?

Can you answer Jennifer P's question about Bamboo?:

I just bought a bamboo plant in China, but I am not sure how to care for it! Any suggestions would be great!

If it is a small you put in a tall glass container with just water and some clean rocks or pepples. I have a bamboo plant which is six years old and has grown nicely, this way. Good luck….This plant is also known as the good luck plant.

To start with it is a water lover it came from a damp climate so don't neglect the watering of it, It looks like a Dumb cane and are very easy to care for. You might get a moisture meter from a nursery or the plant department to stay on top of the watering feed with an all purpose plant food but make sure it is not to strong, less is better more often than a lot at one time and burn the plants roots. Put it in the shower about one a month and let it have a nice tepid gentle shower for about 10 min. Make sure there is a drain hole in the pot one of the killers of house plants is that the roots get drowned by water because often they are planted in one pot with a drain hole then put in a decorative pot with no hole and water accumulates between the two pots that drowns the roots. Roots must have equal amounts of air and water to do well, except cypress they do their own thing.

They let you bring it back from Japan? How big is it? Where are you located? I have two one is about 8in. high and the other 2 and 1/2 ft. they are both in vase like containers with rocks, pebbles and/or marbles holding them up and filled half full with water and keep it like that, and they sit on my window. A friend also has a few, some are in soil kept very damp at all times and some in water like mine. If its big and you plant it outdoors, keep it in a container otherwise it will spread throughout your yard and the neighbors too, they multiply thru their roots and they spring up all over. Good Luck.
