Bamboo is chosen mainly for its properties such as specific gravity, moisture content, water absorption, dimensional stability and hardness. It also looks good and generally performs well. Bamboo is fast replacing products such as cork, linoleum combined withe the fact that it is practical and environmentally friendly. Bamboo mind you is one of the oldest building materials but relatively new to North America flooring market with its great colors and durable finishes. One can even say that the fast-growing grass is so good that it is similar in appearance to hardwood but more stable and stronger. It is quite hard to differentiate between bamboo flooring and hardwood. Bamboo is constantly being redefined in new forms of furniture and accessory and can take a variety of new shapes. As matter of fact, the tropical grass has morphed its way into rugs. The new found gold has hooked more than one interior designer by its versatility. Manufacturers are already making interior bamboo doors available and plans to build things like kitchen cabinets, countertops with bamboo is quickly following. The question is, what will they think of next? People are not only using bamboo in flooring and furniture, it is now becoming quite popular in stairway design as well. If the trend continues, we should continue to see new and pretty innovative things coming out of bamboo.
